Continuing our 'Old Town Bloom on Tour' project we planned a series of sessions with the marvellous Naomi from Animal Teach at Chi Community Cafe
Our second session was on March 3rd - with the theme of Painting, Planting, Playing and Bugs.
Phoenix Play: Phoenix Play is a free stay and play session at Chi Community Cafe every Friday from 10am to 12pm and we took over the session for the morning.
Whilst Naomi introduced the young explorers to some of her friends, those that were initially hesitant, soon became great friends with cockroaches and more! Lots of play was encouraged, with the little ones just getting stuck in with the buckets of soil.
Rachael and Heather got messy with some eco finger paints - we absolutely loved seeing the creations, but really it would be have been nice to roll around in the paint (maybe not for the parents).
Claire helped some young gardeners grow their first sunflowers and everyone left with one of our grow packs!
Lessons Learnt: As we are continuing to look into new ways to work and new materials to work with, for the finger paints we used a new brand to us - OkoNORM from Conscious Craft
If you are running workshops (with little or big people) you have to been increasingly aware of what you are encouraging them to use, not only from an environmental point of view, but also from an allergy point of view.
We are not 100% convinced with this paint yet, so we think a few more messy sessions are in order, before we add it to our permanent workshop collection - do you have any recommendations?
